Geo-Environmental Engineer (Permanent, Full Time)

Constructive Evaluation have an immediate vacancy for a confident, hardworking individual with experience in the environmental aspects of geotechnical engineering to join a young growing team of geotechnical engineers, environmental scientists and structural surveyors.

Constructive Evaluation are a multidisciplinary specialist Geotechnical and Geo-environmental consultancy based on the South Coast providing investigation services to the construction industry throughout the UK. We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Geo-environmental Engineer with 2 + years’ experience to support our existing team.

The successful candidate will be expected to assume responsibility and be accountable for a superb service delivery and a desire to progress within the company.

Role Description

We are seeking a Contaminated Land Specialist; this is a full time position involved in the management of Phase 1 and Phase 2 Site Investigation and Phase 3 Remediation / Validation projects throughout the UK, based at our Head Office in West Sussex.

This will include the procurement of work, managing site operations, production of succinct and accurate excavation logs, appropriate sampling, scheduling of testing and production of Phase 1 – Phase 3 Factual and Interpretive Reports.

Required Skills

The successful applicant should be qualified as a minimum to undergraduate level in Contaminated Land / Environmental Science. A Post Graduate degree level qualification in a related discipline is desirable, but not essential. Applicants with 2+ years postgraduate experience in the Site Investigation Industry would be preferred.

The applicant should be able to show knowledge of appropriate sampling techniques and logging soils / rocks to current British Standard. Applicants should also show experience of the production of factual and interpretive reports, including CSMs.

A strong work and team ethic are essential; the applicant should be adaptable and capable of managing their own workload to produce a consistent and quality service to our clients' requirements. Strong written and spoken communication skills are also considered of paramount importance.

The job role will involve travel to investigation sites and applicants must hold a clean UK driving license. Transport to site will be provided.

Field Operative – Geotechnical/Structural Investigations

Constructive Evaluation are a multidisciplinary specialist Geotechnical, Geo-environmental and Structural Investigation consultancy based on the South Coast providing investigation services to the construction industry throughout the UK. We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Field Operative to support our existing team.

The Role

The role will be diverse and will require an interest in fieldwork, working closely alongside our Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineers and Building Surveyors as part of a team.

Using specialised tools the role is predominantly site based and involves, but is not limited to:

  • Sampling of soils for geotechnical and environmental surveys;
  • Constructing suitable groundwater monitoring wells;
  • Completing specialist load and pressure testing to soils and building materials;
  • Undertaking destructive and non-destructive tests on building structures;
  • Hand-digging of shallow excavations;
  • Use of specialist access equipment such as powered platforms and mobile scaffolds;
  • Assisting and supporting the Site Supervisor as directed.
  • Assisting in the office as required by Senior Staff.

Our dedicated teams of drillers, engineers, utility surveyors, technicians and laboratory staff all play a vital role in ensuring that these services are delivered to quality, on budget and on time.

We undertake work from many different clients across all sectors including Highways, Rail, Commercial Premises, Schools and private homes, with projects ranging from a single day to weeks in the field.

Due to the nature of the business the successful candidate will be required to work on various sites Nationwide. We are looking for an ambitious, hardworking, dedicated individual, with great team work and communication skills. You will need to be adaptable and should have the ability to work to tight deadlines. Night and weekend working may be required, therefore availability and flexibility with regards to working hours is essential to the role.

Skills & Experience

  • Full clean UK valid driving license. This is imperative as the role will involve a lot of driving.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for the outdoor environment/ geology.
  • Sound communication and personal effectiveness skills.
  • Inquisitive, investigative mind, observant and diligent in ensuring accuracy of data recording.
  • Reliable, resilient and persistent in getting a job done.
  • Good problem solving skills and is practically minded.
  • Organised and punctual.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience in the construction and/ or ground investigation industry. Any relevant qualifications (e.g. CSCS scheme).
  • A good level of fitness is required as the work will involve manual handling.
  • A willingness to work unsocial hours and on occasion staying away from home (unsocial hours and overtime payments apply).

Full training will be provided but operative experience within the Engineering / Construction / Rail industry would be beneficial.
